Enjoy a whole week of boredom busters this February half term for families and children alike!
With a mix of events that the whole family can see and do, along with separate events for younger and older children, half term at Norden Farm will keep everyone happy!
MONDAY Farmyard Filmmaking Fun (families) 10.30am – 1pm Make farm and countryside animals using plasticine, fabrics and other exciting materials. Bring your characters to life in a farm adventure using laptops and cameras. £17.50 per person.
Animal Sculpture Casting 11am – 1pm (8 – 10 years), 2pm – 4pm (11+ years) Use clay and plaster to cast found objects and farm animal models to create a farmyard scene. Or make a cast your own face and turn it into the face of an animal with snouts and whiskers! £15 per person.
Countryside Cartoons 2pm – 4.30pm Create a film about a wacky world with talking sheep and dancing chickens. Design and make your own character and then work with others to animate scenes using laptops and cameras. Suitable for ages 8 – 10 years. £17.50 per person.
Chamberhouse Winds presents Peter and the Wolf and other animals 2pm The perfect introduction to classical music for children. Prokofiev’s classic Peter and the Wolf is joined by other animal themed pieces. These include Ravel’s Beauty and the Beast from Ma Mere L’Oye, Gershwin’s Walking the Dog and Flight of the Bumble Bee by Nikolai Rimsky Korsakov. TUESDAY Animal Farm Animation 10.30am – 1pm Create plasticine creatures then work in small groups to bring them to life on the screen. Suitable for ages 8 – 10 years. £17.50 per person.
Garlic Theatre presents The Three Billy Goats Gruff 11.30am and 2pm The classic tale of three hungry goats and a grumpy old troll, told with a gentle ecological message. Watch out for the dance of the goats, the flying troll and lots and lots of rubbish! A magical world with puppets, live music, storytelling and singing. Suitable for ages 3+ years. £8, Family (4 people) £29.
Mooovie Making – Stop Motion Animation 2pm – 4.30pm Learn model making techniques. Then work in small groups to create a surreal film on a futuristic farm. Suitable for ages 11+ years. £17.50 per person.
WEDNESDAY Puppetry Workshop 11.30am – 1pm Creating different types of puppets. Glove puppets, stick puppets, shadow puppetry and others. Learn techniques and tricks and even make your own puppet. Suitable for ages 8 – 10 years. £15 per person.

THURSDAY Play in a Day – Animal Farm led by Troublemaker Theatre Company 9.30am, performance at 7.30pm Work with a professional theatre company to create a show in a day! From idea to performance, and using George Orwell’s Animal Farm for inspiration. Take part in the Become an Animal Acting Class for a head start! Suitable for ages 12+ years. £25 participants, £4 audience.
Freehand Theatre presents Little Red You Know Who 11.30am and 2pm A spell-binding interpretation of the traditional story Little Red Riding Hood. It takes children on a magical path through the woods. Listen to the song of the red box, watch a forest grow before your very eyes and find out how an endearing bear gets in on the action! Suitable for ages 3+ years. £8, Family (4 people) £29.
FRIDAY Mask Making 11.30am – 1pm (families), 2pm – 4pm (8 – 10 years) Make your own animal masks with pens, paint, glue, glitter, feathers or fur. Farmyard animals, exotic animals or make believe animals! £15 per person.
