Last of the Summer Wine

Son of the late actor Bill Owen, Tom Owen tells the story of one of the country’s best loved actors at Norden Farm on Saturday 14 July.

A much-admired star of the world’s longest running television series Last of the Summer Wine, Bill Owen died in 1999, after twenty seven years playing William ‘Compo’ Simmonite. His son Tom, himself an actor for forty years, joined the series in 2000 as Compo’s long-lost son and has recently completed his seventh year with the show.

Bill Owen’s lengthly and eventful career is all too frequently overshadowed by his late success on BBC1. Few know of the hit singles he wrote for Matt Monro, Sasha Distel and Cliff Richard, or the number one hit written for Ken Dodd. Bill Owen also carved out a successful film career, starring alongside Kirk Douglas and Richard Todd.

Through narrative, film, photographs and song, Tom journeys from Bill’s birth in 1914 through to the present day and lets us into some of the secrets of the television phenomenon that is Last of the Summer Wine.

Tickets are £10 (£9 concession), available from the Box Office on 01628 788997 or online here:
