Catch of the Day

Ireland, 1966. An ordinary skipper sails into the sleepy town of Dingle with a very unusual catch…

Chaos immediately ensues and a ridiculous series of events are put into motion, involving the head of the Irish government, a publican who happens to be an amateur marine biologist, a magical dolphin, the actual Queen of England, and a whole bunch of really confused nuns.

An unbelievable true story, Catch of the Day is a riotous romp of a play, all set in a West of Ireland pub. Built from the testimonies of those who remember, this ‘side-splittingly funny’ (The Irish Post ★★★★★) and ‘utterly joyous’ (Within Her Words ★★★★★) mash-up of live music, comedy, and theatre, is the ‘ideal show for a night out with friends and family’ (London Theatre 1 ★★★★★).

Following an award-nominated run at Edinburgh Fringe (shortlisted for Best Musical), critically acclaimed, sell-out shows in London and Oxford, and fresh from its home-coming Irish tour, Catch of the Day visits Maidenhead for the first time.

Bring your mates and your mammy, grab a pint with the lads from Dingle, and get ready for one craic-ing night out.

One fish can make a big splash.

Presented by Red Fox Theatre. Award nominated theatre company, Red Fox Theatre was formed in 2018. They make children's theatre for grown-ups, unashamedly silly, experimental and a little bit educational.

Sessions

By Ifeyinwa Frederick. A Paines Plough and Soho Theatre Production.

“30 just matters, init. Like there’s no doubt you’re a proper adult then. Like 25 to 29 is just training but 30, it’s real.”

Tunde’s 30th birthday is fast approaching. So, he’s just started therapy because he hasn’t been able to get to the gym for weeks and a recent one-night stand ended in tears – his.

Interrogating the challenge of opening up and accepting our own vulnerabilities, SESSIONS by Ifeyinwa Frederick is a raw, funny, bittersweet deep-dive into the complexities of masculinity, depression and therapy.

The Dolly Project

A sneaky first peak at Take the Space’s work in progress with film, zoom, country music, classical music and two angels on guitar and harmonica!

A dyslexic woman, aged 60, realises, after months of hell working in a care home, that she can face anything now - even her demons of literacy. Niamh is ready for her first challenge - the words and chords in her Dolly Parton songbook. The iconic star is her hero and she’d like to sing Dolly’s songs at The Country Music Festival in Blackpool but she’ll need a lot of help which is why she asks the local choir master for music lessons. To her surprise, Norman agrees to coach her but on condition she joins his choir. Niamh has never sung posh music before and she’s scared that they’ll all find out about her.

This is the story of a woman, who with grit and courage, resolves to grab a bigger life before it’s too late; a journey of transformation, inspired by Dolly Parton’s own narrative. This is also the story of an unlikely friendship; a woman and a man, both lonely and isolated, learning how to live with grief.

We’re inviting our audience to be part of the creative process and contribute to a post show discussion, chaired by Jane Corry, artistic director of The Farm who with her team are supporting us in testing out this workshop pilot #dyslexia, #DollyParton #C21stPygmalion #newplays #ArtsCouncilEngland #NationalLotteryAward
