John Horler - A Tribute to Bill Evans

There are no scheduled instances of John Horler - A Tribute to Bill Evans. You can view similar events below.

John returns to Norden Farm with Alec Dankworth.

This time in classic jazz trio format, celebrating the music of Bill Evans. They are joined by drummer Ronnie Jones, to mark the 60th anniversary of the release of seminal Bill Evans album Portrait in Jazz.

The trio will be performing tracks from the iconic 1960s album, including beloved standards like Autumn Leaves, Someday My Prince Will Come and the seminal Blue in Green - controversially claimed as a Miles Davies composition on Kind of Blue, but long speculated as actually written by Bill Evans.

The Jo Harrop Quartet (vocals)

Presented by Norden Farm Jazz Club.

Jo Harrop (vocals)
Alex Hutton (piano)
Ben Hazleton (bass)
Tbc (drums)

The quartet will swing through some colourful new arrangements and medleys using the back catalogue of Ella Fitzgerald, Sara Vaughan, Anita O'Day Oscar Peterson as a point of reference.

The programme will also allow for Harrop’s award winning song-writing. It will show case material from her latest album Path Of A Tear , recorded in Los Angeles.

The Path Of A Tear is an ear-watering slice of mid-70s soul with a sublime shot of jazz and a subtle twist of Americana.

Jo Harrop possesses one of the most unmistakable voices in contemporary jazz, yet she has soul running through her veins. The Path Of A Tear, Harrop’s fourth album on London-based jazz label, Lateralize Records, suggests an artist determined to keep moving forward as she dives into unchartered musical waters.

Having won widespread critical acclaim for her last two albums, The Heart Wants and When Winter Turns To Spring, The Path Of A Tear sees Harrop finding her voice as a writer with elegant, confessional songs of unflinching honesty.

Few artists can convey the depth of emotion Harrop evokes every time she opens her heart to sing. Anyone who hears her music knows exactly how she feels; the smouldering sadness flowing through her voice speaks for itself. Her songs are where she lives. Music is a form of catharsis for Jo Harrop, an award-winning artist who would rather show you her battle scars than her trophies.

'This girl was born to sing jazz, all the warmth and sensibility to melt even the chilliest of hearts' Blues and Soul Magazine

'Harrop has Excellent tone and great stage prescence' Marlbank

'Her voice is amazing, think Isaly whiskey, or tannin rich red wine - deep' Lance, Bebop Spoken Here

Oh la la! Quintet - A Night in Paris

Close your eyes, you're in Paris...

Oh la la! mixes Parisian folk music (musette),  impressionist music, French chanson with unforgettable 20’s upbeat to 50’s smooth jazz, film noir/nouvelle vague film music and the occasional rearranged cool 60’s French pop tune as well as original material from their upcoming album.

The dulcet tones of Parisian born Fifi la Mer's voice and the evocative sound of her accordion blended with the talents of Oliver Wilby on clarinet will take you straight back to that little café by the Eiffel tower, before the exuberance and beautiful sound of his saxophone they will transport you to that buzzy jazz club by Pigalle with the cool feel of Simon Picton on guitar and the groove of Julian Bury on double bass.

Oh la la! have performed over 1200 concerts during the past 10 years in venues up and down the country including Ronnie Scott's jazz club, Upstairs at Ronnie's, the Brasserie Zedel (Piccadilly), the Royal Opera House (Covent Garden), Wilton Music Hall, the National Theatre, St Martin in the fields, the Ignite, Elgar room and Cafe Verdi @ the Royal Albert hall.
