Moonrakers Folk Orchestra

Four piece band, Moonrakers (harp, cello, stringed instruments, whistles, female/male vocals) pride themselves on having brought traditional and contemporary folk music to new audiences in festivals, arts centres, churches and village halls across the UK.

With songs and tunes from the English, Irish and Scottish tradition as well as their own compositions, they’ve been described as 'startlingly talented' (Oxford Times) and 'truly wonderful' (Wycombe Festival), with five albums of 'exquisite music' (BBC).

Their albums have received glowing reviews in the music press ('The real deal' The Living Tradition; 'Uplifting, sensitively crafted songs and tunes' FATEA magazine).

Moonrakers Folk Orchestra Acoustic Workshop

Moonrakers each year run a series of Folk Orchestra workshops across the country.

They are for intermediate instrumentalists who wish to develop skills in arranging and playing folk tunes and songs in an ensemble.

Jon Bennett (guitar, ukulele, bouzouki, whistles), Jacqui Johnson (cello, fiddle, keyboard) and Becki Luff (harp, keyboard) have many years’ experience conducting workshops at Benslow Music, Halsway Manor and at several festivals.

They work through a number of tunes and songs, inviting you to suggest arrangement ideas yourself. Music (with chords, countermelody and bass) will be sent out in advance along with a video of each tune played at medium pace for those who learn by ear. Above all, it’s a rare opportunity to play with a multi-instrumental and welcoming group.

The Brass Funkeys

The Brass Funkeys are a trailblazer in the new generation of UK Brass Bands.

Formed in 2011, this nine piece collective has a unique sound forged from their strong personalities and eclectic individual tastes, whilst still paying homage to their New Orleans Brass Band roots.

The Brass Funkeys have honed their skills over 10 years playing the club and festival circuits in the UK and Europe, always exploring new musical directions while refining their exciting, eclectic and energetic live show, bursting at the seams with ideas and infectious energy.

The Brass Funkeys frequently appear on festival main stages (Glastonbury, Boomtown, Wilderness, Lost Village, Love Supreme, North Sea Jazz Festival) as well as performing at world renowned venues (Ronnie Scott’s, Koko, Cambridge Corn Exchange).

After the cancellation of dozens of live dates in 2020, The Brass Funkeys did not take lockdown lying down, instead embarking on an ambitious project to release four EPs to catalogue the band’s journey.

You may have seen the band performing at the 2019 Lantern Parade and headlining Lanterns Live gig.

'Brass has not been this good since that time Reel Big Fish covered A-Ha... The Brass Funkeys are my favourite band. 10/10' Vice Magazine: Noisey Music

Reasons You Should(n't) Love Me

Juno was born with spina bifida and is now clumsily navigating her twenties amidst street healers, love, loneliness – and the feeling of being an unfinished project.

For a long time I didn’t know how it’d work.
Or what I’d be able to feel.
People would ask me if I could have sex and I’d feign shock and act wildly offended whilst secretly wanting to grab them by the shoulders and be like "I don’t know, Janet!"

Winner of the Women’s Prize for Playwriting 2020, Amy Trigg’s remarkable debut play is a hilarious, heart-warming tale about how shit our wonderful lives can be.
