Natural and Un-natural History: Drawing and Painting
Led by Jo Hall.

This course explores how artists are inspired to work from natural objects.

After a couple of sessions making works based on observation, we’ll go on to create more abstract works involving pattern, before finding ways of adding an imaginative or surreal twist. Reference artists to include John Ruskin, Peter Randall Page, Sophie Munns, Magritte.


Please bring your own materials as indicated in the list below:
- Small sketch book and cartridge paper
- Pencil, pen and ink
- Watercolours
- Coloured pencils or pastel pencils (just a few)
- A tube of white gouache for working on coloured paper
- Watercolour paper (cold or hot pressed)
- Brushes and palette
- Water pots
- Drawing board and block of wood or table easel
- Clips or tape to attach paper
- Paper towel

You may like to work in pastel or acrylic after the first two weeks or continue with drawing media and watercolour.

Coloured paper will be supplied by the tutor at cost.

Suitable for 18+ years.
