Sculpture: Scenes in Relief

Relief sculpture bridges the worlds of painting and sculpture, offering a unique opportunity to create dimensional storytelling on the surface. In this workshop, participants will sculpt in clay to transform two-dimensional images into sculptural compositions, using depth, layering, and texture to add volume and space presence to the plane. Participants will learn techniques for refining shapes, creating contrast, and adding intricate details to enhance the visual impact of their relief pieces.
Bring reference images for inspiration—whether paintings, landscapes, still life, or personal photographs—to help shape your design.
Attendees of previous workshops (May 8th or June 5th) may also apply ceramic paints and glazes to earlier sculptures before a second firing, free of charge.
Completed works will be ready for collection in four weeks.
Suitable for ages 18+ years.
