Draw an Ancestor or Family Member using the “three crayon” technique
The three crayons used for this way of working on a toned paper are traditionally white; terracotta or sanguine; and a sepia or black conté crayon. Bring these or similar colours in hard pastels or pastel pencils. Bring your own reference, or you may be drawing one of my ancestors!
We’ll reference drawings by Watteau so if your reference has a distinctive hair style or hat that would be perfect.
Please bring your own materials as indicated below:
- Three conté crayons or similar: White, Sanguine or Terracotta, Sepia or Black
- A paper torchon or blending stump
- Putty eraser
- Craft knife
- Tinted paper with a little tooth
- Fixative spray (to be used outside only)
- Drawing board and block of wood or table easel
- Masking tape to attach paper
- Paper towel
Some tinted paper will be available from the tutor at cost.
