Uncle Vanya

Filmed at the Harold Pinter Theatre, London in August 2020.

Sonya (Aimee Lou Wood) and her Uncle Vanya (Toby Jones) while away their time on an isolated estate, visited occasionally only by the local doctor Astrov (Richard Armitage). However, when Sonya’s father Professor Serebryakov (Roger Allam) suddenly returns with his restless, alluring, new wife Yelena (Rosalind Eleazar), polite facades crumble and long repressed feelings start to emerge. As the conflicted family are forced to confront their despair, loneliness and each other, can the beauty of life help them find new hope?

Following its critically acclaimed opening in London in 2020, Sonia Friedman Productions’ stunning 5-star production Uncle Vanya, a new adaptation of the Anton Chekhov masterpiece by Conor McPherson directed by Ian Rickson, was abruptly halted as the world went into lockdown.

As many theatres across the world remained in darkness, Uncle Vanya’s exquisite ensemble overcame the considerable challenges of working in a global pandemic, returning to the Harold Pinter Theatre to film the ‘perfect’ (★★★★★ The Guardian) production.

WHY? Full of tumultuous frustration and hidden passions, but brimming with hope and optimism for the future, Uncle Vanya is a must-see event for our times

‘An exquisite production. Perfection’ ★★★★★ The Guardian

‘Toby Jones is superb in Chekhov’s great tragicomedy’ ★★★★★ Financial Times

‘A superlative company achievement – most of us will be lucky if we see a better cast in our lifetimes’ ★★★★ The I

‘This is a Vanya for our times’ Evening Standard

‘Ian Rickson’s striking revival. Such compassion, such life’ ★★★★ The Times

Catch of the Day

Ireland, 1966. An ordinary skipper sails into the sleepy town of Dingle with a very unusual catch…

Chaos immediately ensues and a ridiculous series of events are put into motion, involving the head of the Irish government, a publican who happens to be an amateur marine biologist, a magical dolphin, the actual Queen of England, and a whole bunch of really confused nuns.

An unbelievable true story, Catch of the Day is a riotous romp of a play, all set in a West of Ireland pub. Built from the testimonies of those who remember, this ‘side-splittingly funny’ (The Irish Post ★★★★★) and ‘utterly joyous’ (Within Her Words ★★★★★) mash-up of live music, comedy, and theatre, is the ‘ideal show for a night out with friends and family’ (London Theatre 1 ★★★★★).

Following an award-nominated run at Edinburgh Fringe (shortlisted for Best Musical), critically acclaimed, sell-out shows in London and Oxford, and fresh from its home-coming Irish tour, Catch of the Day visits Maidenhead for the first time.

Bring your mates and your mammy, grab a pint with the lads from Dingle, and get ready for one craic-ing night out.

One fish can make a big splash.

Presented by Red Fox Theatre. Award nominated theatre company, Red Fox Theatre was formed in 2018. They make children's theatre for grown-ups, unashamedly silly, experimental and a little bit educational.
