We are delighted to announce an award of £351,000 by Arts Council England from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS)’s Culture Recovery Fund.
These funds will support running costs over the next 5 months and help ensure the future of our community venue, following substantial losses incurred due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Norden Farm costs circa £750,000 to run annually, and the 6 month closure to the public over the spring/summer created substantial financial losses.
We are committed to supporting families and the local community in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. We were the first venue in the region to re-open with a live programme of shows and classes as well as film. Throughout the period of shutdown, we continued to run a digital programme of classes and shows and even took our ever popular Kite Festival online. Creative Arts Social Club for older isolated residents was one of the many groups that continued to run on Zoom. Live concerts were streamed direct from the Norden Farm stage onto newly built section of our website.
Norden Farm's Chief Executive & Artistic Director, Jane Corry says: ‘We are so very grateful to Arts Council England and DCMS for this lifeline to carry us through the Covid-19 health crisis and allow us to continue to work with our schools, disadvantaged groups, local families and residents. The benefits of the arts for our mental health and well-being have never been clearer. Maintaining the much-loved arts centre is essential so we can keep providing access to the arts for all Maidonians at this universally difficult time. We’re not out of the woods yet though and will be announcing a public appeal to support the restricted capacity live and virtual programmes, but this grant gives us renewed hope for the future.’
Chair of Trustees, Martin Kaye, says: ‘I am very grateful to the Arts Council and DCMS for this invaluable support. When I add this funding to the way the management and staff of Norden Farm have managed to keep some of the programmes etc running, it gives me confidence that, with the continued support of members, customers, and the RBWM, we can continue to serve the community in to the future. Thank you again Arts Council and DCMS.’
