Three actors, indie-pop innovators The High Llamas and a four piece string section perform this new show about love, community and growing old. At Norden Farm on Sat 30 May at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8.50 (£6 conc).
Set on a brutal 1960s council estate, The High Llamas provide a continuous soundtrack as the story of Bobby unfolds. A young working-class poet, Bobby, unwittingly falls in love with Susan, the daughter of the architect who designed the grim estate. Their thwarted relationship stretches over many decades, as Susan is trapped in an unhappy marriage to another man, Jack. It is a story that encompasses the pain and consumption of adolescent love, growing old and the inexorable rise of consumerism.
This show is extra-special to Norden Farm as it co-produced by Norden Farm and ARC and directed by Jane Corry who was the Centre Director of Norden Farm for many years.
Say Hi to the Rivers and Mountains is written by Jonathan Coe, the author of several novels including What a Carve Up! and The Rotters' Club - which was successfully adapted for BBC television in 2005. The High Llamas formed in the 90s, inspired by Brian Wilson pop symphonics and German electronica. They have released a number of highly acclaimed albums with their nylon-string guitars and distinctive vintage synthesizer effects.
