Valentine’s Day Piano recital with Diana Ionescu

After her acclaimed performance of the Grieg Piano Concerto in 2006, Romanian pianist, Diana Ionescu returns to Norden Farm Centre for the Arts to give a full evening recital on Thursday 14 February at 7.30pm.

Her attractive programme includes a group of Scarlatti sonatas, Schubert’s hauntingly beautiful first set of impromptus and Liszt’s famous Liebestraum.

Scarlatti : 5 Sonatas Schubert: 4 Impromtus, D.899 Liszt: Liebestraum No.3; La Leggierezza Debussy: Estampes Chopin: Ballade No. 1; Scherzo No. 1. With St. Valentine’s Day in mind Diana has chosen to play Liszt’s Liebestraum (German for Dreams of Love), which is based upon poems by Ludwig Uhland and Ferdinand Freiligrath. The three poems by Uhland and Freiligrath depict three different forms of love.

Born in Romania, Diana began studying the piano with Sanda Bobescu, a professor at the National Music Academy in Bucharest. From 1991 to 1992 she was a pupil of Olga Szell at the Georges Ensecu Institute. She then entered Dan Grigore’s class at Bucharest’s National Music University, from which she graduated in 2003 with the highest grades possible. In 2001 Diana won first prize in the Georges Enescu international piano competition.
