Zen Drawing (online)

Led by Amanda Schenk

Amanda Schenk is the visual artist behind Norden Farm's much-loved (and Instagrammed) glass corridor artwork in the school holidays. Join Amanda for this new drawing course, aimed at helping to create a sense of calm and relaxation through drawing patterns.

Suitable for all abilities, the workshops will focus on building confidence in your drawing abilities - concentrating on the soothing journey of the drawing experience, rather than the finished drawing.

In each session you'll explore how to produce different types of patterns in abstract drawings - looking at different designs each week.

You will need: paper (plain, no smaller than A5), lead pencil, eraser, sharpener, black fine liner or a pen. Optional is a black marker.

Eric Ravilious: Drawn to War (PG)

Dir: Margy Kinmonth, 2022 | 88 mins

Eric Ravilious is as compelling and enigmatic as his art. Set against the dramatic wartime locations that inspire him, Margy Kinmonth’s film brings to life this brilliant but still grossly undervalued British artist. Caught in the crossfire of war 80 years ago, Ravilious’s legacy largely sank without trace, until now.

Made with the blessing of the Ravilious Estate, this first full length feature documentary about Ravilious unfolds in his own words, through previously unseen private correspondence and rare archive film. Shot entirely on location in the UK, Portugal and Ireland, the film features Ai Weiwei, Alan Bennett, Grayson Perry, Robert Macfarlane with Freddie Fox, Tamsin Greig and many more.

'A lovingly crafted documentary portrait' ★★★★★ The Arts Desk

'Fascinating new light on a singularly English master' ★★★★ The Telegraph

Minions: The Rise of Gru (U)

Dir: Kyle Balda 2022 | 90 mins

Long before he becomes the master of evil, Gru is just a 12-year-old boy in 1970s suburbia, plotting to take over the world from his basement.

It’s not going particularly well. When Gru crosses paths with the Minions, including Kevin, Stuart, Bob, and Otto - a new Minion sporting braces and a desperate need to please - this unexpected family joins forces. Together, they build their first lair, design their first weapons, and strive to execute their first missions.

When the infamous supervillain supergroup, the Vicious 6, oust their leader - legendary martial arts fighter Wild Knuckles - Gru, their most devoted fanboy, interviews to become their newest member. The Vicious 6 is not impressed by the diminutive, wannabe villain, but then Gru outsmarts (and enrages) them, and he suddenly finds himself the mortal enemy of the apex of evil. With Gru on the run, the Minions attempt to master the art of kung fu to help save him, and Gru discovers that even bad guys need a little help from their friends.

Norden Farm Summer Choir

Led by Tabitha Beavan

Soulful Summer Singing Sessions at the Farm.

Join us for for a cappella summer sing-songs on the Farm. Led by Tabitha and inspired by the Pitch Perfect movies, you’ll experience how good it feels to use the voice you’ve got and create goose bumpy harmonies with others. We’ll also explore rhythms and body beats to really feel the groove. A totally inclusive choir, open to all who want to give a bit of ‘a cappella’ singing a go.

In each session you’ll learn two songs; a short warm up song and a well-known feelgood summery song – for example Surfin’ USA, Happy or Dance with Me Tonight. You can either attend individual sessions or come to the full series. Why not plan to arrive early to have a drink on the Norden Farm beach!

Tabitha Beaven founded the Maidenhead Tuneless Choir in 2016 and performs with Funkin’ Souled Out; a local funk, soul and disco function band. Her style is upbeat, full of energy and she is passionate about the power of singing for all.

Brian & Charles (PG)

Dir: Jim Archer 2021 | 90 mins

Brian lives alone in a remote village in the countryside. Something of an outcast, he spends his spare time inventing things out of found objects in his garage. Without friends or family to rely on, Brian decides to build a robot for company.

'Charles' is not only Brian's most successful invention, but he appears to have a personality all of his own and quickly becomes Brian's best friend, curing his loneliness and opening Brian's eyes to a new way of living. However, Charles creates more problems than Brian bargained for, and the timid inventor has to face-up to several issues in his life; his eccentric ways, a local bully, and the woman he's always been fond of but never had the nerve to talk to.

'Robot comedy is bromance of the year' ★★★★ The Guardian
