Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical (PG)

Dir: Matthew Wachus | 117 mins

Matilda Wormwood is a little girl with big curiosity, a sharp mind and a vivid imagination - and the worst parents in the world.

While her parents content themselves with trashy TV and dodgy money-making schemes, she loves to lose herself in the pages of her beloved books. Where they are loud, selfish and unkind she is a quiet observer, thinking up small and cheeky acts of rebellion and revenge.

On meeting her inspirational teacher Miss Honey, Matilda is encouraged and begins conjuring her own fantastical tales. Excited to attend Crunchem Hall, Matilda is surprised to find the school is an ominous and oppressive place led by the huge and villainous Miss Trunchbull.

Filled with an overwhelming sense of justice, Matilda dares to take a stand for what is right and teach Trunchbull a lesson she won't forget.

‘We are revolting children, living in revolting times! Tim Minchin’s genius lyrics make this a smash hit, with Alisha Weir, for all ages. See you at the singalong version’ Metro

Michele Stodart: Invitation Album Launch tour

Caribbean-born Michele Stodart is an award-winning solo artist, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist now based in London.

Best renowned as bassist, vocalist and co-songwriter of Mercury-nominated, double-platinum selling band, The Magic Numbers, who she continues to play and tour world-wide.

Michele has always pursued her own writing alongside her band and nurtured a love for folk/Americana artists as Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch.

After almost a decade of touring, she took time out to record an album of her own songs: Wide-Eyed Crossing (2012), a southern-drenched journey into Americana country blues.

She soon became known for her intimate, heart-wrenching live performances and gained recognition for her solo material. This helped establish her as a singer-songwriter in her own right. She was signed by One Little Independent and a second solo album - Pieces (2016) - followed shortly after, receiving great critical acclaim for its melodic, cinematic, Americana -influenced confessional songs.

Michele’s diverse skills as a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and musical director led to many collaborative projects in the studio or on stage with artists including Kathryn Williams, Billy Bragg, Bernard Butler, David Ford, Natalie Imbruglia, Ren Harvieu, Charlie Dore, David Kitt, Hannah White, Rachel Sermanni, O'Hooley and Tidow.

In 2022 she received public recognition for her talent. Following this she was awarded the AMA-UK Instrumentalist Of The Year award. In January 2023 she was invited back as musical director at the UK Americana Awards.

Michele will be releasing her third solo album Invitation in September 2023. She will be touring in support of the album shortly after.

Anatomy of a Fall (15)

Dir: Justine Triet 2023 | 152 mins

(French with English subtitles)

Winner of the Palme d'Or, Cannes 2023. For the past year, Sandra, her husband Samuel, and their eleven-year-old son Daniel have lived a secluded life in a remote town in the French Alps. When Samuel is found dead in the snow below their chalet, the police question whether he was murdered or committed suicide. Samuel's suspicious death is presumed murder, and Sandra becomes the main suspect.

What follows is not just an investigation into the circumstances of Samuel's death but an unsettling psychological journey into the depths of Sandra and Samuel's conflicted relationship.

‘Justine Triet’s Palme d'Or-winning film pivots on a violent death, but really it is the dead man’s relationship with his enigmatic, successful wife that is on trial’ BFI Sight and Sound
