Painted Paper Collage

Led by Jo Hall

In this course we’ll start by preparing papers for collages and go on to produce collage works from prepared papers and also from 'found' and recycled papers (including discarded drawings, paintings and printed material).

Referencing the work of Matisse, John Piper, Max Ernst and Mark Hearld, and others we’ll explore several different collage techniques for making 'pure collages' and 'mixed media collages' embellished with drawing and painting media.

Please bring your own materials and equipment as in the information below.

Please bring;
Acrylic paint and palette, brushes, water pots, pencil.
Alternatively use watercolour or gouache but papers prepared with these require more care for gluing.
Scissors, craft knife if you have one, newspaper, paper towel
Glue: acrylic medium, PVA, Mod-Podge or Pritt Stick
Glue brush, tweezers (useful for picking up small pieces)
Light-weight cartridge paper for prepared papers and support for the collage (any heavy-weight paper 300gsm or more, or mount board or similar). We’ll prepare painted papers from the cartridge paper and you may like to experiment with other papers for making prepared papers.
A small A4 cutting mat would be useful if you have one.

We’ll discuss the use of 'found papers', recycling drawings and paintings, addition of media like; crayon, pen lines, further paint etc. during subsequent weeks.

Acoustic Guitar - Absolute Beginners

Led by Jim Maving

Always wanted to learn guitar but never got around to it? Want to trade your air guitar skills for real guitar skills? It is never too late to learn. Learn guitar right from the very beginning. This is a foundation course for those with little to no experience of playing guitar. You will learn how to hold a guitar and to make the right noises out of it. The aim of these lessons is to get you playing your first song within 4 weeks of lessons, as no-one takes up guitar to strum random chords, it’s all about the songs.

If you are returning to guitar having not played for some time and can barely remember chords this is a great way of getting back into the swing of things.

If you've never played guitar you need to book on the Absolute Beginners course!

These classes are split by skills level;

Beginners A - Recently completed the Absolute Beginners course but still some way to go. Yet to tackle bar chords and complicated rhythms.

Beginners B - Well on the way and able to do bar chords

Beginners C - Almost Intermediate but not quite yet.
