Pulman & Stilgoe - A Couple Of Swells

This is old-fashioned glamour in the company of two, modern-day musical greats.

A Couple of Swells is the inspired pairing of two unique entertainers.

Liza Pulman, songstress, comedienne and one-third of the iconic Fascinating Aida, and virtuoso pianist, songwriter and singer Joe Stilgoe. Together they combine humour and musicianship at the very highest level, making old songs sound new and new songs feel like you’ve known them all your life.

Both born in the proverbial trunk, their style has been fine-tuned from cradle to stage. Together they have the musical and theatrical chemistry of Dudley Moore and Julie Andrews, or Barbara Cook and Wally Harper.

Prepare to be swept away by Joe’s dazzling piano playing, Liza’s exquisite vocals and their beautiful, tight harmonies as they dig into the true classics and hidden gems of Irving Berlin, Paul McCartney, Jerome Kern, Billy Joel and Leonard Bernstein, mixed with a few new songs specially written for the show.

Liza Pulman
Pulman’s career began at Glyndebourne Opera and has encompassed music, theatre and over twenty years as one-third of Britain’s best-selling satirical comedy trio, Fascinating Aida. This much-loved satirical comedy group has just completed 100 sell-out shows across the UK including three nights at the London Palladium and are set to return for a run of shows at the Royal Festival Hall in January 2025.

Liza’s solo career as a concert performer and recording artist has showcased a talent for rediscovering, reinventing and reimagining timeless classics and lost gems. Most recently, Liza Pulman - Streisand played West End runs to packed houses and five-star reviews, and a new show, The Heart Of It, started its 2023 tour at The Other Palace in London.

Joe Stilgoe
Stilgoe is an internationally acclaimed singer, pianist and songwriter, known for writing songs that feel like classics, and adapting classics so they sound like they’ve just been written. Most recently, Joe arranged and accompanied Hannah Waddingham’s performance of Time After Time at the BAFTA Film Awards and opened this year’s Olivier Awards with his arrangement of Anything Goes.

Growing up surrounded by music, Joe’s career extends across theatre, TV and radio. He’s a regular on Radio 4 on shows including Loose Ends and The Horne Section and he has worked with some of the finest orchestras and bands in the world. Joe has released eight albums, five of which topped the UK Jazz chart.

'Oooo…it’s SO good' Dawn French

'Joe Stilgoe and Liza Pulman are showbusiness royalty…' ★★★★ LondonTheatre1

'The chemistry Pulman and Stilgoe have together is second to none … together they are unstoppable' ★★★★All That Dazzles

'… a wonderful night of proper showbiz from two extraordinary artists right at the top of their game…' Damian Thantrey, Festival Director, Lichfield Festival

SIX the Musical Live!

Event cinema screenings.

Filmed at London’s Vaudeville Theatre and featuring the six original West End queens – Jarnéia Richard-Noel, Millie O'Connell, Natalie Paris, Alexia McIntosh, Aimie Atkinson and Maiya Quansah-Breed - each reprising their roles for a one-off, showstopping cinematic experience.

Watched by audiences of over 3.5 million, the box office smash-hit and double TONY award-winning SIX the Musical has reigned supreme as a global theatre phenomenon since its 2017 debut at Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The electrifying show follows the long-misunderstood wives of Henry VIII as they strut out of the shadow of their infamous husband to reclaim their narrative and finally tell their stories in their own words - with plenty of royally good fun along the way.

Written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, this musical for the ages sees the six queens - Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anna of Cleves, Katherine Howard and Catherine Parr - take back the microphone through a series of infectious, empowering performances. The queens are accompanied by the sensational on-stage band, the Ladies in Waiting.

Where Rio de Janeiro Meets Bahia

Mario Bakuna (acoustic guitar and vocals) and Uccio Gaeta (drums).

Mario Bakuna invites Uccio Gaeta to present the repertoire of the album Where Rio de Janeiro Meets Bahia, recorded in Paris, which brings together the Afro-Brazilian rhythms of the Recôncavo Baiano and the charm and subtlety of Bossa Nova.

The show is a trip to Rio de Janeiro, cradle of Bossa Nova, and to Bahia, the city that best represents the powerful African influence in Brazilian music. The concert integrates the rhythmic roots of Brazilian music and its sophisticated harmonies in a beautiful duo show that celebrates great Brazilian composers such as Dorival Caymmi and Tom Jobim. Mario and Uccio promise to transport the audience to a place where the real and the imaginary are experienced and enhanced by poetry and music.

Mario Bakuna is a London-based Brazilian composer, arranger, singer and guitar player. With a focus on the development of a music repertoire inspired by the greats of Afro-Brazilian Music, Samba, Jazz and Bossa Nova. In addition to developing new arrangements of music by enshrined Brazilian artists such as Tom Jobim, Dorival Caymmi, Paulo Moura, and João Donato, in recent years he has been working on reinterpretations of Samba Jazz: a musical genre that emerged in Rio de Janeiro in the 1950s and was led by musicians like Luiz Eça, Tamba Trio, and Edson Machado inspired by the Post-Bossa Nova movement.

Since settling in London Mario Bakuna has become a prominent figure and a reference in the Brazilian Jazz music scene in England.

'Mario Bakuna, a sparkling guitarist, plays with palpable feeling - his virtuosic fluency on the fretboard is controlled and flourishes are perfectly placed. His voice has a texture like heavy cloth' Songlines Magazine

'Mario Bakuna, a man who exudes music. (…) ‘vocals’ doesn’t begin to do him justice: his expressive range and the precision with which he was able to deploy it was truly the band’s fifth instrument. (…) And he did this while playing guitar with precision and finesse' The Whitman Review, Wakefield Jazz

Imar

Presented by RM Promotions.

The Irish / Manx / Scottish quintet are BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winners. They are amongst Glasgow’s hottest folk property.

They have a wide reaching fanbase throughout the UK, Europe, USA and Canada. The quintet have fast become one of the trad scene's most talked about group. It's thanks in no small part to their debut video L’Air Mignonne becoming a viral smash in 2016. It catapulted the group to the attention of audiences and media worldwide.

Their two albums Afterlight and Avalanche, have since amassed a devoted listenership. Live audiences are transfixed by their collective and individual technical prowess.

The line up includes Adam Brown (bodhrán), Adam Rhodes (bouzouki), Mohsen Amini (concertina), Ryan Murphy (uilleann pipes) and Tomás Callister (fiddle). They all share a strong background in Irish music. It is a grounding that underpins many of Ímar’s distinctive qualities, in both instrumentation and material.

The shared cultural heritages between Scotland, Ireland and the Isle of Man are well documented: all three once shared the same Gaelic language, and a similar, clearly potent, kinship endures between their musical traditions.

'Striking musicianship, artful arrangements and sheer absolute delight' Songlines

'Genuinely jaw-dropping collective virtuosity supplied frills to burn' ★★★★★ The Scotsman

'The energy that’s seemingly bursting to let loose is tempered by a variety of instrumental formations and an attention to pacing that showcases the tunes’ melodic strength, and even when the floodgates open the effect is all the more exhilarating for the underlying control and musicality' The Herald

The Simon Spillett Quartet

Presented by Norden Farm Jazz Club.

Simon Spillett (tenor sax)
Alex Hutton (piano)
Alec Dankworth (bass)
Clark Tracey (drums)

Over his twenty five year career Simon Spillett has worn almost as many hats as it's possible to wear within jazz; multi-award-winning instrumentalist (BBC Jazz Awards, British Jazz Awards, Jazz Journal's Album of The Year), quartet and big band leader, recording artist, author, historian, record producer, archivist, magazine columnist and latterly blogger.

However, for all these varied skills he identifies most strongly as a powerfully swinging, straight ahead tenor saxophonist, one capable of taking the audiences who hear him on a roller coaster ride encompassing everything from energetic bebop to heartfelt balladry.

And it’s in this guise that he’s become a solid fixture on the UK jazz landscape, regularly playing sold out gigs at major festivals (EFG London Jazz Festival, Brecon, Swanage, Scarborough, Wigan etc.) and world famous club venues (Ronnie Scott’s).

A charismatic performer, gifted with a dry observational wit, he’s never lost sight of the fact that jazz is entertainment as much as self-expression and whether playing, writing or articulately holding forth on his favourite subject UK jazz history – he’s an infectiously passionate communicator.

Gasper Nali

Gasper Nali is a not-so-traditional babatoni player from the small town of Nkhata Bay on the shores of Lake Malawi.

The babatoni is an African one string homemade three meter long bass guitar, and with a stick and an empty beer bottle, together with a cow skin kick drum and catchy melodies, he creates the most amazing and danceable original Afro Beats possible!

Gasper’s unique style of Kwela music has received an extraordinary amount of online attention after a video of him playing by the lake shore went viral with over 20 million views. He has been featured by CNN and in the documentary Deep Roots Malawi, jammed with Joss Stone, appeared on Wired for Sound – Malawi, remixed by Aroop Roy for Sol Power Sounds and been played by Iggy Pop on BBC 6! His debut album, Abale Ndikuwuzeni, roughly translates to People, I want to tell you. It is a fitting title as Gasper’s songs, all sung in the Malawi national language of Chichewa, talk about life and strife in the country, often including social issues such as the rich and the poor, child marriages etc.

Gasper has toured the UK and Europe several times since his breakthrough video, playing in all environments from seated arts centres spaces to major festival stages. This year, Gasper will be transforming his customary one man band show and perform with a three piece band for the very first time in the UK. Along for the ride is Malawi born songsmith and cultural proponent Luhangah on additional vocals and percussion, as well as Gasper’s long time producer and collaborator Mattias Stålnacke on guitars.

Gasper will also release his new record Chule Chule Iwe to coincide with a UK tour in May / June of 2025.

Jaz Delorean

Jaz Delorean is a London based British singer, with the European touring band Tankus (formerly Tankus the Henge) and also on his own at the piano.

He has a colourful past together with a wild and wandering present. The songs that he sings and plays on the piano are tender observations of our fragile and sometimes twisted existence on this planet, taking inspiration from bar-room piano players of the Old West, the mournful melodies of his Cypriot ancestry and a patchwork of comic and tragic stories from growing up around a travelling funfair.

Strange things happen in dreams, but stranger things can happen in waking life, and Jaz Delorean has never shied away from baring his tattered soul to anyone willing to listen.

He’ll pull at your heartstrings and get you dancing to the rhythms of his fingers and forgetting your own worries for a time, before skulking off into the blackness behind the neon carnival lights again.

Recognised with an official PRS / Billboard award as Britain’s Hardest Working Act in their category, and featured in the BBC's critically acclaimed Arena documentary series, Limehouse Lizzy’s influence extends beyond the stage.

Lead singer and bassist Wayne Ellis has further left his mark as a former member of the recording and touring band The Clan, alongside none other than original Thin Lizzy and Motörhead member, Brian Robertson.

2023 / 24 has been their most successful period yet, with 41 sold-out shows on their Anniversary Tour, whilst continuing with their legacy of international performances including the USA, UAE, the Caribbean, NL and Scandinavia.

As they march irrepressibly into 2025, Limehouse Lizzy continues to deliver their unique and irresistible tribute to Philip Lynott and Thin Lizzy, ensuring the band’s timeless hits remain a staple in rock music for years to come

The Paul Booth Quartet (tenor sax / soprano sax)

Presented by Norden Farm Jazz Club.

Paul Booth (tenor sax / soprano sax)
Alex Hutton (piano)
Laurence Cottle (electric bass)
Tbc (drums)

From his early acclaim as a prize-winning saxophonist, Paul Booth has continually refined and expanded his talents as a solo artist, composer, arranger and bandleader, whilst establishing an elite reputation as a first-call sideman for major contemporary music artists.

Paul was born in the North East of England, and as a young boy started playing music with his father in the clubs and bars of Southern Spain where the family were temporarily residing. On his return home, he discovered the local jazz scene and fell in love with the music and the art of improvisation. As a homeschooled child he was able to fit all his studies around music, enabling him to sit his GCSE and A-Level exams early. He won a place at the Royal Academy of Music in 1993 at the age of 16, becoming their youngest student on a degree course. That year Paul also won the Best Modern Jazz Player category at the televised Young Jazz Player of the Year.

Over the next four years at the Academy, Paul combined his studies with gigs in London and across the UK, that included a long association with Colombian percussionist Roberto Pla and a partnership with pianist Alex Wilson that’s still going strong. During his third year, Paul won the prestigious Clifford Brown / Stan Getz Fellowship in Miami USA, and spent a six month exchange in Perth at the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts. Following his graduation in 1997, Paul immersed himself in the world of the professional musician. He eventually joined the European Glenn Miller Orchestra for eight tours, before landing the saxophone chair for the worldwide smash hit show, Riverdance, staying for eighteen months. In 2005 Paul toured the US and Japan with Basia and Matt Bianco, and soon after received the call from Steve Winwood with whom he has been working ever since.

In 2004 Paul released his first solo album It’s Happening’ which was followed by the albums No Looking Back (2007), Pathways (2009) and Trilateral (2011) Patchwork Project (2015). All of which were extremely well received available through his own Pathway Records label.

Paul’s ability to blend into any musical surrounding coupled with his talents as a multi-instrumentalist has led to him being regularly chosen to perform with many well-known artists. Paul has toured, performed and recorded around the world with The Eagles, Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, Carlos Santana, Van Morrison, The Allman Brothers Band, Bonnie Raitt, Chaka Khan, Kylie Mingoue, Jamiroquai, Gregory Porter, Barry Manilow, Warren Haynes, Marti Pellow, Derek Trucks, Eddie Henderson, Geoffrey Keezer, Clarence Penn and Ingrid Jensen. He has worked with Incognito, Brand New Heavies, The BBC Big Band, Michael Janisch Quintet and the Ryan Quigley Quintet and so many more.

A point proved in 2023 when a short clip of front man Steve performing as Liam went viral on social media with over half a million views. Martin Turner ex Wishbone Ash

Martin Turner and his band return to our stage to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the formation of the original Wishbone Ash.

Wishbone Ash was formed by West Country musicians Martin Turner and Steve Upton, who arrived in London in 1969 to embark on their musical journey. Martin Turner envisaged the band’s innovative harmony-guitar hallmark and guitarists Ted Turner and Andy Powell were recruited via a now legendary Melody Maker advert. The partnership of the original line-up of Wishbone Ash forged a unique musical identity that would produce some of rock music's best loved works and influence numerous successful bands, resulting in millions of album sales and concert attendances. Wishbone Ash’s name would become synonymous with high quality, guitar-driven melodic rock music.

Many decades later, the music of the classic line-ups of Wishbone Ash continues to delight audiences worldwide through both live performances and a rich legacy of recorded work that continues to be enjoyed by fans old and new. Classic album releases such as Wishbone Ash, Argus, Pilgrimage, Wishbone Four, There’s the Rub, New England and Live Dates defined the Wishbone Ash sound and touched the hearts of several generations of music fans.

As lead vocalist, bassist and key creative force, founding original member Martin Turner was central to the critical and commercial success of Wishbone Ash’s most revered albums, with his passionate vocal delivery, song writing ability, keen melodic sense and production values being major ingredients in the definitive Wishbone Ash sound.

Martin continues to delight audiences with performances of the band’s best loved works with his current band. The Blowin’ Free tour will feature music from the career-defining eras of Wishbone Ash, with a show consisting of classic tracks and stage favourites as well as much loved deeper album cuts, making it a show no true Wishbone Ash aficionado will want to miss
